§ 33.5-21. Unlawful acts.

  • (a)

    It is unlawful for any person to perform massage therapy unless that person is registered with the department of excise and licenses.

    (b)

    It is unlawful for any person under eighteen (18) years of age to obtain the services provided by a massage therapist unless that person is accompanied by his/her parent or legal guardian, has a physician's prescription for massage therapy, or has a letter from his/her parent or legal guardian authorizing the massage therapy.

    (c)

    It is unlawful for any massage therapist to provide massage therapy to any person under eighteen (18) years of age unless that person is accompanied by his/her parent or legal guardian, has a physician's prescription for massage therapy, or has a letter from his/her parent or legal guardian authorizing the massage therapy.

    (d)

    It is unlawful for any person to provide massage therapy to a patron whose genitals are exposed unless that person is teaching infant massage to the parents of a child under the age of twenty-four (24) months.
