§ 54-282. Obedience of railroad train operators to traffic-control devices.

  • (a)

    The operator or person in charge of any railroad train upon any railroad spur track crossing a street, highway or roadway at which an official traffic-control signal or stop sign has been or is installed, or which is approaching the same so near thereto as to constitute a hazard, shall not move the railroad train into the area of the street, highway or roadway extending across such tracks until such traffic-control signal displays a signal to proceed as indicated in section 54-101, or in the case of a stop sign, shall move into the street, highway or roadway only after yielding the right-of-way to all vehicles on the street, highway or roadway according to section 54-180, relating to vehicles entering through highways.

    (b)

    When the operator or person in charge of the railroad train at a stop sign on a spur track has yielded the right-of-way to vehicles on the street, highway or roadway, and has then proceeded into the street, highway or roadway, all drivers of vehicles on the street, highway or roadway will then yield the right-of-way to the train until it has cleared the street, highway or roadway.
