§ 54-72. Audible and visual signals on emergency vehicles.
Every authorized emergency vehicle shall, in addition to any other equipment and markings required by this chapter, be equipped with a siren, exhaust whistle or bell capable of giving an audible signal and be equipped with at least one (1) lighted lamp exhibiting a red light visible under normal atmospheric conditions from a distance of five hundred (500) feet to the front of such vehicle, except a police vehicle, may, but need not, be equipped with the red light specified herein. The fire department may also be equipped with air horns for use by its drivers so as to clear intersections. Other emergency vehicles may also be equipped with warning devices, other than air horns, that emit yelps and screeches for use by their drivers to clear intersections.
