Chapter 54. TRAFFIC REGULATIONS |
Article III. ENFORCEMENT OF TRAFFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS |
§ 54-60. Public employees to obey traffic regulations.
(a)
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to persons, motor vehicles or other equipment while such persons, vehicles or equipment are actually engaged in cleaning, washing, repairing or otherwise working upon the surface or structure of the highway or the adjacent curbs, sidewalks, parkways or upon street lights, traffic control devices and signals, or on other wires and devices suspended immediately above the surface of the highway; but shall apply to such persons, vehicles or equipment when traveling to and from the designated place where such work is to be performed. These provisions contained herein shall not relieve the driver of any such vehicle or equipment of the duty to drive or operate the same with due regard for the safety of all persons and property, nor shall such provisions protect the driver from the consequences of reckless disregard for the safety of persons and property.
(b)
The provisions of this chapter, unless the enforcement thereof would constitute an unlawful interference with the performance of a governmental function, shall apply to the driver of any vehicle owned by and in the use of the United States government, the State of Colorado, or of this city, and it shall be unlawful for any such driver to violate any of the provisions hereof, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.
