§ 42-78. Finder of property.

  • (a)

    If the finder of lost, abandoned or stolen property which has been accepted by the department is an officer or employee of the city who has taken possession of such property in the course of his employment, the city shall be deemed the finder and such property shall be delivered to the custodian, who shall give the officer or employee a receipt for such property.

    (b)

    If the finder of lost or abandoned property which has been accepted by the department is a private person who brings property he has found to the department, such property shall be delivered to the custodian. Upon such finder's making a report concerning the location and circumstances of the finding, the custodian shall issue the finder a receipt for the property which shall declare his contingent right to reclaim possession of the property as provided in this article.
