§ 18-551. Relief fund.

  • There is hereby created a police pension and relief fund which shall be composed of money from the following sources:

    (1)

    All moneys received from fines imposed on all police officers in the classified service for violation of law or the rules and regulations of the department;

    (2)

    All donations and gifts which may be made to the fund;

    (3)

    An annual appropriation by city council in a sufficient sum to carry out the provisions of this division for the police pension and relief fund benefits in an amount not less than the annual contributions made by the members;

    (4)

    Contributions from each member at the rate of eight (8) percent of his or her salary or the percentage as increased thereafter by the fire and police pension association or by city council pursuant to Charter section 9.6.11(A), except that the increase in such contributions shall not be to a level higher than that permitted by state statutes concerning police pensions. No contribution shall be made by any member at such times as that member is receiving only one-half (½) of the salary for the rank he or she holds pursuant to any provision of the Charter.
